Best Time to Visit Paraty: Weather, Driest Months & Festival Calendar

Sunny pier with schooner boats in Paraty

Paraty enjoys a warm tropical maritime climate year-round, but because it sits directly between the Atlantic Ocean and the coastal mountain range, rainfall patterns vary dramatically across the seasons.

1. May to September (The Dry Season) – The Sweet Spot

Weather: Sunny blue skies, low humidity, daytime highs around 24°C to 27°C (75°F–81°F), and cool, crisp evenings (around 17°C/63°F).

This is arguably the best time of year to visit Paraty. Rainfall is at its annual minimum, boat trips enjoy calm seas and clear visibility for snorkeling, and hiking the trails of Serra da Bocaina or Praia do Sono is much less muddy.

2. December to March (Summer High Season) – Vibrant Energy

Weather: Hot and sunny (29°C to 33°C / 84°F–91°F), warm water for ocean swimming, but frequent late-afternoon tropical thunderstorms.

Summer brings vibrant nightlife, bustling streets, street performers, and peak holiday energy. Book boat tours and accommodations well in advance for New Year's and Carnival.
