Praia do Sono Trail Guide: Untouched Wild Beach Paradise

Wild golden sands of Praia do Sono in Paraty

For travelers craving an authentic, off-the-grid adventure, Praia do Sono (Sleep Beach) is legendary. Accessible only on foot through the Atlantic rainforest or via traditional fishermen's skiffs, it offers a kilometer of fine golden sand, almond trees, rolling surf, and an authentic Caiçara community.

The Trail: From Laranjeiras to Praia do Sono

The trail begins at the condominium gate in Vila Oratório (Laranjeiras), reached by regular municipal bus from downtown Paraty (line 1040) or taxi in roughly 35 minutes.

  • Distance & Difficulty: 3.2 km (2 miles), moderate difficulty.
  • Duration: 1h to 1h30 each way.
  • Terrain: Uneven dirt steps, roots, and wooden stairs through dense canopy. Wear sneakers or hiking boots; avoid walking in flip-flops.

Caiçara Boat Taxi Alternative

If you prefer not to hike or are carrying heavy backpacks, small local motorboats operate from the marina at Laranjeiras straight to the sand of Praia do Sono. The boat ride takes roughly 15 minutes and costs approximately R$ 40 to R$ 60 per person depending on the season.

Hiking Further: Antigos, Antiguinhos & Ponta Negra

From the southern end of Praia do Sono, a steeper 30-minute trail leads over the headland to Praia dos Antigos and Praia dos Antiguinhos—two completely deserted beaches with crystal-clear waters and freshwater streams running down from the hills directly into the ocean.
